Capped Frequently asked questions

What's the Tesco Mobile Pay monthly tariff Capped option?

Our Capped feature lets you cap your tariff, meaning you get the great value of Pay monthly without any unexpected surprises on you bill.

This feature is great:

  • Making sure you only spend what you want to each month.
  • Managing your kids' spending, whether they're at school or college.

How it works:

You’ll get your usual monthly allowance, for example 250 minutes, 5000 texts and 500Mb data. If you use all your minutes, texts or data before the end of the month, then you can just top-up as if on Pay as you go, meaning your bill will never be more than you expect. The good news is you’ll only get capped on the part of the allowance you’ve used up. So just because you’ve used up all your minutes doesn’t mean you have to stop texting.

What's the difference between Flexible credit and Pay monthly Capped tariff?

The Pay monthly Flexible credit tariff gives you monthly credit (e.g. £40 credit on the £10 tariff), but if you spend it all you'll need to top-up, just like on Pay as you go, to keep using your phone until your next month's credit begins. For example, if you pay a £10 a month for your kid's phone and they spend all their credit, they'll have to top-up to keep using it that month.

The Pay monthly Capped tariff you can choose from a variety of tariffs e.g. £15 a month, 750 minutes, 5000 texts and 500Mb data.

Will my capped allowance roll over?

After your first bill we will roll over any unused allowance to ensure you receive the full first month’s allowance. From your second month onwards your allowance will not roll over.

Can I switch from my existing contract onto a Capped contract?

Uncapped Pay monthly customers

If the minimum term of your contract has expired, you can migrate to a Capped contract by calling 4455 from your Tesco Mobile phone.  If you are currently within the minimum term of your contract, you cannot migrate to a Capped contract.

Capped Flexible Credit customers

You can migrate to a Capped contract, but you’ll lose any flexible credit and your 5 favourite numbers if you currently have them on your tariff. If you’ve topped up real money outside your monthly credit on our Capped Flexible credit tariff and there is any money remaining, this will transfer across to your new  contract. To make this change, call 4455 from your Tesco Mobile phone.  Once you have moved across to the new Capped contract , you will not be able to switch back to your old Capped Flexible Credit Contract.

Can I switch back or move to the Capped Flexible tariff?
