Using your phone abroad

Setting up your phone

If you're on one our Pay as you go or Pay monthly tariffs, your phone is already set up to work while you're abroad  - just switch it on when you arrive and use it as normal.

If you're abroad and are unable to use your phone, please call our Customer Care team on +44 845 301 4455.

Useful numbers while you're abroad

 

Picking up voicemail:

  • Pay monthly: If you're a Pay monthly customer, you will no longer be charged for any voicemails left on your mobile while you're in the EU.
  • Pay as you go customers:  You'll be charged for using the voicemail service, even if you do not listen to the full message. These charges will be credited back to you account within 8 hours.

Calling home - How much does it cost?

There's no need to add the UK country code, you just dial as normal (the numbers in your phonebook will work just fine too). To find out how much it costs to make a call back to the UK click here.

Using data services abroad

EU data cap and fair use policy:  From the 1st July 2010 we're capping the amount you're charged for mobile internet browsing in the EU at £40 per month.

This means that no matter how much you browse the internet in any given month, whilst abroad in the EU, you’ll never be charged more than £40. If you reach the £40 cap, you'll be able to use up to 40mb of data without incurring any additional charges. Once you've reached the 40mb limit, you may find that you’re not able to make any outgoing calls.

If you're abroad and are unable to use your phone, you may have reached the 40mb additional allowance. To get this call bar lifted, please call our Customer Care team on +44 845 301 4455 and they'll be able to remove the outgoing call bar.

If you continue to use your phone, you'll be charged for any additional data used between now and your next bill date.

Countries you can make calls from

You can use your phone in more than 100 countries around the world. How much your calls will cost depends on where you’re going.
