EDGE is an improvement on existing technology and not necessarily a third generation, it is often referred to as 2.75G. EDGE is used for the purpose of wireless data transfer, such as sharing pictures and videos or browsing the internet via a mobile phone connection.


GB (Gigabyte)

A GB is a measure of computer data storage capacity and is roughly a billion bytes. A Gigabyte is 1,024 Megabytes or 1,048,576 Kilobytes.


GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a method of enhancing 2G phones to enable them to send and receive data more rapidly. With a GPRS connection a phone can transfer data immediately and at speeds: typically 32 - 48 kbps.


GSM stands for 'Global System for Mobile Communication' and is the most popular 2G mobile phone standard in the world.


HLR (Home Location Register)

The HLR is a database that stores and manages subscriptions of GSM subscribers. It contains all permanent subscriber information which includes the subscribers profile and activity status.


A hotspot is a site that offers internet access over a wireless local area network through the use of a router. The router will be connected to an internet service provider.
